I made the wellies in yellow, red and blue as they’re the colours of Peppa, George and Mummy Pig’s wellies (my 20 month old is just getting into Peppa Pig, but I’m learning fast 😉 )
I didn’t have time to take many photos so took this one quickly as we left to drop them off.
I used a corn syrup & vodka mix on the wellies to make them shiny (the alcohol evaporates as the mixture dries, so it’s fine to use it on kids cakes!) I’d used this before on parts of the running shoe cupcake topper and it worked really well.
Lesley Wright from the Royal Bakery has written a really helpful blog post on Craftsy about how to make fondant shiny (which is where I read about the corn syrup / vodka mix), as well as lots of other great tutorials. She also has loads of tutorials in the notes section of her Royal Bakery Facebook page (only viewable on the desktop Facebook site) which have tons of great tips and tricks in.
Here’s the link for the for the ‘How to make fondant shiny tutorial’ she wrote for Craftsy: http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2013/08/how-to-make-fondant-shiny/
